Badya by Palm Hills, engineered by the renowned firm AS+P Albert Speer + Partner, is a massive 3,000-acre smart city in 6th of October City designed to accommodate over 150,000 residents. The master plan utilizes an innovative decentralized, polycentric layout consisting of six distinct districts, each revolving around its own commercial and service hub. To optimize the engineering and construction lifecycle across multiple contractors, developers fully integrated Building Information Modeling (BIM) and Geographic Information Systems (GIS). Architecturally, the city leverages natural desert topography with a strategic density gradient—placing higher-density apartment zones on elevated ground to naturally channel air circulation and exploit passive cooling for the lower-density villas below.

From an infrastructure and sustainability standpoint, Badya is engineered as Egypt’s first resource-efficient "Sponge City" and "15-minute city." It features a hyper-connected network including 250 kilometers of cycling lanes and pedestrian pathways built on the "Living Street" concept, where over 50% of roads prioritize pedestrians and non-motorized micro-mobility over traditional car traffic. The civil infrastructure introduces an advanced smart grid alongside integrated rainwater harvesting swales, which double as microclimate cooling mechanisms and retention drainage areas during heavy rains. These sustainable engineering choices, which emphasize building envelope optimizations and localized photovoltaic (PV) solar integration, effectively reduce carbon emissions while slashing overall energy and water consumption by up to 30% compared to standard building practices.
